There’s been a fatal shooting in Washington, D.C., and it happened just nearby the White House.
Two national guards have been shot and killed at 17th Street and I Street NW, near Farragut Square Park, police have confirmed.
The location is two blocks north of the White House, and it happened just before 2:30 p.m. ET on Wednesday (November 26), per NBC’s News4.

The scene is “now secured and a shooting suspect is in custody,” Metropolitan Police Department confirmed via social media.

The two National Guardsmen were both from West Virginia, and their deaths were confirmed in a statement from West Virginia Governor Patrick Morrisey.
“It is with great sorrow that we can confirm both members of the West Virginia National Guard who were shot earlier today in Washington, DC have passed away from their injuries,” he said.

“Our entire state grieves with their families, their loved ones, and the Guard community. West Virginia will never forget their service or their sacrifice, and we will demand full accountability for this horrific act,” he concluded.
The third person shot is the suspect, News4 is also reporting, and no other people were injured in the shooting.
An investigation is now underway.
At the same time, President Donald Trump is at his home in Mar-a-Lago, while Vice President J.D. Vance is at Ft. Campbell, an army base between the Kentucky–Tennessee border.
Trump just issued a statement via TruthSocial: “The animal that shot the two National Guardsmen, with both being critically wounded, and now in two separate hospitals, is also severely wounded, but regardless, will pay a very steep price.”
“God bless our Great National Guard, and all of our Military and Law Enforcement. These are truly Great People. I, as President of the United States, and everyone associated with the Office of the Presidency, am with you!” he continued.
Earlier this year, President Donald Trump took unprecedented action in Washington, D.C., deploying the National Guard to patrol the streets.
