Prince William‘s role in King Charles‘ coronation has been revealed.

The Prince of Wales is first in line to the throne and will be by the King’s side on May 6 when he formally ascends the throne.

A new report is shedding light on the special role that he’ll have in the ceremonies, and it harkens back to the responsibility a family member had at Queen Elizabeth‘s coronation.

According to a report by Hello, Prince William will stand in as King Charles‘ “liege man of life and limb” and make “The Homage of Royal Blood” during the coronation. It is a role that his grandfather Prince Philip played when his wife became Queen.

What does it entail?

Prince William will make a pledge to his father while on his knees. The pledge goes as follows: “I, William, Prince of Wales, pledge my loyalty to you and faith and truth I will bear unto you, as your liege man of life and limb. So help me God.”

A report earlier this week also revealed the role that Princess Anne, the King’s only sister, will play at the coronation.

Leading up to the big day, we’ve also learned what responsibilities Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis have during the coronation.
