Will Smith has released a brief response to the news that he has been banned from the Oscars for the next 10 years.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ Board of Governors announced on Friday (April 8) that Will will not be allowed to attend any of their events, including the Oscars, for the next 10 years.

The disciplinary action comes a couple weeks after Will slapped presenter Chris Rock on the Oscars stage after the comedian made a joke about his wife Jada Pinkett Smith‘s bald head.

In a very brief statement, Will responded to the news by saying, “I accept and respect the Academy’s decision,” according to Deadline.

The AMPAS meeting was supposed to happen on April 18, but after Will resigned from the Academy on his own, the meeting was moved to today.
