Michael Caine made headlines when he said in a new interview that he was retiring at the age of 88.

The Oscar-winning actor said that his role in the new film Best Sellers would be his “last part,” but now his rep is speaking out to deny the report.

“Funnily enough, it has turned out to be my last part, really,” Michael said during the BBC Radio interview. “Because I haven’t worked for two years and I have a spine problem which affects my legs so I can’t walk very well. And I also wrote a couple of books which were published and were successful, so I’m now not an actor I’m a writer.”

He added, “There’s not exactly scripts pouring out with a leading man who’s 88.”

TheWrap said in a new article that “Caine’s representatives assure TheWrap that reports of his retirement are not true.”

It’s expected that Michael will have a role in Christopher Nolan‘s upcoming movie Oppenheimer as the actor has appeared in every one of the director’s films since Batman Begins.

Michael even launched an unexpected project this past summer.
