Alan Parker has sadly died at the age of 76.

The two-time Oscar-nominated director died on Friday (July 31) following a “length illness,” Deadline reported.

Parker was best known for directing such films as Midnight Express, Bugsy Malone, Evita, Mississippi Burning, and Angela’s Ashes. His final film was the 2003 drama The Life of David Gale, which starred Kevin Spacey and Kate Winslet. He earned Best Director nominations at the Oscars for his work on Midnight Express and Mississippi Burning. He also earned Golden Globe nominations for those films, as well as Evita.

Alan is survived by his wife Lisa Moran-Parker, his five children, and seven grandchildren. We’re sending our thoughts and condolences to his loved ones during this difficult time.

Just seven months into the year, we’ve already lost so many amazing stars and we’re remembering them all.
