NBA Player Kristaps Porzingis Under Investigation for Rape Accusation

Kristaps Porzingis, forward for the Dallas Mavericks, is being investigated for an alleged rape in New York.
The 23-year-old NBA player was accused by a woman who told police on Friday (March 29) after waiting over a year after the alleged rape to come forward due to reported discussions about receiving $68,000 from the player to keep quiet, according to the New York Post.
“We are aware of the complaint that was made against Mr. Porzingis on Friday and unequivocally deny the allegations. We made a formal referral to federal law enforcement on Dec. 20, 2018, based on the accuser’s extortionate demands. We also alerted the National Basketball Association months ago, and they are aware of the ongoing investigation of the accuser by federal law enforcement. We cannot comment further on an ongoing federal investigation. Please refer any questions to the Federal Bureau of Investigation or the National Basketball Association,” said the basketball player’s attorney Roland G. Riopelle in a statement.
Kristaps was playing for the New York Knicks and tore his ACL hours before the reported attack, which according to the accuser happened in February of 2018 at the building where he lived in New York.
“This is Kristaps‘ personal matter and not related to the Knicks,” a team spokesperson said.
He is still currently recovering from his ACL injury.
