Wicked’s Marissa Bode Reacts After Ariana Grande Gets Rushed by Man at Singapore Premiere

Marissa Bode is speaking out after the incident co-star Ariana Grande was involved in at the Singapore premiere of Wicked: For Good.

As the 32-year-old actress/singer arrived at the premiere with co-stars Cynthia Erivo and Michelle Yeoh on Thursday (November 13), a man, later identified as Johnson Wen, unexpectedly crashed the red carpet and ran up to Ariana and forcefully put his arm around her shoulder and started jumping up and down.

Before security could react, Cynthia, 38, jumped into action and wrestled Ariana away from Wen and held her close as security dragged him off the red carpet.

Following the incident, Marissa, the 25-year-old actress that plays Nessarose Thropp in the movies, objected the notion that the man that charged at Ariana is “a fan.”

She went on to note that in the past, she has discussed issues of “parasociality, especially at things like concerts or just when someone in the public eye is at an event, like people throwing s–t on stage mid-performance.”

This is about the experiences of most women in Hollywood btw. Olivia Rodrigo really ate when she said “all the time. I’m grateful all the time” because that’s what some of yall are constantly expecting. WIERDOS

This wasn’t the first time that Wen, who describes himself as a “Troll Most Hated,” has invaded a celebrity’s personal space. On Instagram, he often shares footage of himself leaping on stage at concerts and crashing events.

“This is what I mean when I say social media brings out the worst in people,” Marissa continued. “Oh, did you get your views? Did you get your likes? Guess what you also did? You made somebody feel incredibly unsafe, but just — no remorse. That goes over your head. You’re a bad person.”

She went on to say that she does not believe “women, or really anybody, should be expected to move with grace or respond with kindness when they’ve been violated in that way, and to expect that makes you a weirdo also.”

“The thing is, most of the time women within the public eye do respond with kindness because they know what the result is going to be if they don’t,” Marissa added.

In another TikTok video, Marissa said that her comments were not not “just about what happened in Singapore, it’s also about women in this industry in general.”

She cited Chappell Roan and Rachel Zegler as women in the entertainment industry who are often criticized on social media “for just having an opinion on something.”

“These are people, they are not products, they do not owe you their entire personhood. And to be frank, if you don’t agree with that, you are not a fan,” Marissa added. “[You are] someone who’s entitled that desperately needs to be brought back down to Earth.”

Following the incident with Ariana, Wen is now facing charges.
