Sabrina Carpenter is set to star in and produce a movie musical based on Alice in Wonderland, but don’t expect a remake of the Disney movie.
The Grammy-winning superstar has teamed up with Universal Pictures and Wicked producer Marc Platt for the upcoming untitled movie, which will be written and directed by Hustlers helmer Lorene Scafaria.
THR reports that this is Sabrina‘s “passion project” and she dreamed up the idea for the movie.

The outlet reports that Sabrina herself “approached the studio about a year ago with specific ideas and a lookbook. As the concept evolved, producers and eventually Scafaria were added to the tea party.”
Lewis Carroll‘s book “Alice in Wonderland” was famously turned into a beloved 1951 animated movie at Disney and the studio turned it into a live-action version in 2010 starring Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter.
Fans had been dream-casting Sabrina for a different Disney live-action movie, but it looks like she had this other project in sight all along.
