David Harbour is recounting a day on the set of Stranger Things where a particular line made him act “very irresponsible.”
The 50-year-old actor told People that while he is usually good about ensuring they get the take, there was one moment while shooting season 3 that really tripped him up.
Specifically, a scene when his character, Jim Hopper, is speaking with Finn Wolfhard‘s and Millie Bobby Brown‘s characters Mike and Eleven.

“If you watch [the] behind the scenes of season 3, I’m sitting there with Finn and Millie on the bed and I say to Finn — I’m very angry at Finn and I’m like, ‘You got to get home because I don’t want him in bed with my daughter.’ And I’m like, ‘You got to get home.’ And he goes, ‘Why? What’s the matter?’ And I go, ‘It’s your grandma,’ ” David explained.
For some reason, the “It’s your grandma” line made him break over and over again.
“And I just, for some reason, that particular line, I couldn’t say it for like an hour,” he said. “And I laughed and laughed and laughed to the point where the children, Millie and Finn, were like, ‘What is wrong with you? We need to get to work.’ ”
The Violent Night star did apologize to the kids, who were much younger during the filming of the third season, but David says he isn’t one to break character often so the memory sticks out to him.
“If you watch that thing, that really is probably one of my favorite memories because I’m a pretty responsible guy when I go to work, but I was very, very irresponsible that day,” he concluded. “And yeah, it was amazing.”
Speaking of David and his co-stars, he and Millie shared a very sweet reunion during the world premiere of season 5, which kicks off with its first four episodes on November 26.
