Taylor looks back at that time and realizes that it would’ve been better to “ruin the friendship” than have to regret not knowing what the relationship could have been.

“And it was not an invitation / Should’ve kissed you anyways / Should’ve kissed you anyway / And it was not… / My advice is always ruin the friendship / Better that than regret it / For all time,” Taylor sings on the track.

There are also references to prom, Taylor‘s high school bestie Abigail Anderson, and rapper 50 Cent, who was mega-popular back then.
