Jessica Simpson is opening up about her long-awaited return to music!

The 45-year-old singer and fashion designer dropped two EPs this year, Nashville Canyon parts one and two, marking her first original releases since her album Do You Know in 2008.

During an appearance on The Jennifer Hudson Show, which aired Thursday (October 2), Jessica talked about her comeback, as well as possibly releasing music with younger sister Ashlee Simpson.

“They are genreless because I think not having a label, it’s just been the most empowering thing ’cause I can really just listen to and do what I want to do,” she said of her new music. “And for the first time ever in music, I just got to be vulnerable.”

“[When] I was signed to a record label, I had work to do, and it was just a job,” she continued. “And this time it was the spirit. I allowed the spirt to move through me… I just felt as if I was reborn and I was going through heartbreak, I was going through an incredible journey of trying to discover self love and also compassion, and just trying to remain vulnerable, but find strength through it. That’s really what Nashville Canyon ended up being for me.”

“I hadn’t put music in so long. I didn’t even know if I could do it,” Jessica added.

As for a future collaboration with her sister, Jessica noted they really want to do it, and even involve their kids, who are also musically inclined!

“Yes, of course. Ash and I were just talking on the phone two days ago about wanting to do something, and wanting our kids to be involved as well,” she dished. “‘Cause all of our kids are great, they’re all musically [inclined].”

Jessica added that her youngest daughter Birdie, 6, “can belt her brains out. She has got the power,” and that her oldest daughter Maxwell, 13, and son Ace, 12, both have perfect pitch.
