There’s a bit of CBS TV show renewal-esque news.

The network is showing faith in their new comedy, DMV! They just ordered an additional episode count for the series, meaning it will now have 20 episodes for its first season.

Often, new shows are given short episode counts up top to see how audiences react and how ratings might be before networks commit to full episode orders.

Well, this is a great sign for the freshman comedy that CBS has faith it will do well…and the first episode has not even premiered yet!

Deadline reports that the first 13 episodes are almost done being filmed and CBS is “pleased” so far.

Here’s the show’s synopsis: DMV is a single-camera comedy set in the place everyone dreads going most – the Department of Motor Vehicles – where employees are making minimum wage dealing with customers who are annoyed before they even walk in the door. Working at the East Hollywood DMV office are: Colette (Harriet Dyer), a driving examiner with a big heart and bad boundaries; Gregg (Tim Meadows), a misanthropic former English teacher; Vic (Tony Cavalero), a former bouncer who loves putting difficult drivers in their places; Barbara (Molly Kearney), a newly promoted manager who tries hard but often misses the mark; Noa (Alex Tarrant), a charming surfer who seems destined for much greater things; and Ceci (Gigi Zumbado), a scrappy photographer who isn’t afraid to speak her mind. Fortunately, this quirky crew has each other to navigate the twists and turns of the DMV together.

While this isn’t exactly “renewal” news, it does bode well for the show. Three out of the four TV shows that were given full episode counts in their freshman seasons last year were renewed in 2025. Only one of those shows, Poppa’s House, ended up getting canceled.

Find out which 8 total TV shows CBS canceled this year.

Season 1 of DMV kicks off on Monday (October 13).
