Jane Fonda has released a statement on her longtime friend and collaborator Robert Redford, who passed away at the age of 89.

In a statement to Just Jared, Jane said, “It hit me hard this morning when I read that Bob was gone. I can’t stop crying. He meant a lot to me and was a beautiful person in every way. He stood for an America we have to keep fighting for.”
Robert once said of working with Jane, “It’s easy. We’ve done many films over the years so it just worked out that way, that there was not a lot of discussion, we didn’t have to talk about a lot. Things just kind of fell into place between us, and there wasn’t much more to think about.”
She previously spoke about him in an interview as well.
Our condolences go out to Jane, as well as all of Robert‘s loved ones.
