Oliver Stark steps out for ABC’s End Of Summer Soiree held at Cecconi’s West Hollywood on Friday (September 5) in West Hollywood, Calif.

The 34-year-old actor was joined by his 9-1-1 co-stars Ryan Guzman, Gavin McHugh, Corinne Massiah, Elijah M Cooper and Jennifer Love Hewitt, with her husband Brian Hallisay, who has appeared on the show several times.

At the event, Oliver opened up about how the ABC drama moves forward after the loss of the character Bobby Nash (played by Peter Krause) last season.

“I think it’s not gonna be a linear path of healing, as I don’t think grief is,” Oliver shared with Deadline. “There are episodes that maybe feel lighter and like we’re moving directly past it and then, as grief does, it sneaks up on you again. So I don’t think it’s an overall down feeling of the show, I think it’s looking to move forward, but in a way that is respectful to the memory of the Bobby Nash character and finding creative ways for him to still haunt the narrative.”

He also shared how we find his character Buck in the upcoming ninth season.

“We definitely come back to a more settled Buck, not looking to leave, and instead — I would say, probably — looking to put down more secure roots, if anything,” the actor dished. “He was obviously in a dark place at the time, and I think that has washed over him and may well come back again, but, for now, I think he’s finding more and more reasons to want to stay.”

As for the fan response to Bobby’s death, Oliver noted that the creatives on the show are doing well at accomplishing their task of moving the audience.

“Yeah, I think that’s the point, is to feel hurt and upset and to invest in things and to feel happy in some episodes and sad in other episodes, you know; that is the point in making any form of television or any movie is that you want people to go on a roller coaster of emotions and, for me, if people are hurt by the actions that are meant to feel painful then it means that we’re on the right path and doing the right thing, so I thank them for their investment,” he said.

If you missed it, Corinne and Elijah were promoted to series regulars for the new season, which is set to premiere on October 9th!
