Sheinelle Jones Sets ‘Today’ Return Date Following Husband’s Death

Sheinelle Jones is returning to Today following her hiatus.

Sheinelle first announced she would be going on hiatus from Today in December 2024, citing family health issues. In May 2025, Sheinelle confirmed that her husband, Uche Ojeh, had passed away following a battle with brain cancer.

On Tuesday (September 2), Savannah Guthrie announced that Sheinelle had chosen her return date.

Savannah revealed on the episode that Sheinelle would be returning to Today on Friday (September 5).

“She calls this experience ‘a beautiful nightmare,’ and she has thoughts on grief that are so touching. She’s got a special message of hope for anybody facing their own struggles, and we will share that with you [Friday],” Savannah revealed on the episode.

When the cast first announced Uche‘s passing, co-host Craig Melvin said, “One thing [Uche] always talked about — he talked about those kids. He loved those kids more than anything else in this world, and was just so proud. He was that dad that was on the sideline at every soccer game. He was at all the concerts, the recitals. He was that guy, and they had such a beautiful love story.”
