Godfather of Harlem has not been renewed for Season 5, nor has it been cancelled.

The showrunner recently spoke to THR about the fate of the series, and provided a positive update.

The outlet noted that in real life, Bumpy lived only about three more years after Malcolm X’s death, and the co-creator was asked how many more seasons are able to be told, and whether a day will come when the story shifts from Bumpy’s life to a spinoff about Frank Lucas.

“First of all, they tell me this show premiered very, very well [this season], and I’m really grateful to the fanbase for this show for sticking around such a long time between seasons and then coming back in full force,” said showrunner and co-creator Chris Brancato.

“So, that seems to indicate — knock on wood, because I never know for sure until they tell me — that there will be a fifth season. Bumpy died in ‘68 and we’re in ‘66 right now. So, the fact is that Bumpy can run his course as a character, depending on Forest and depending on the appetite of the network. But yes, to your point, can this story continue as Godfather of Harlem but now the godfather is Frank Lucas? Yeah, I think so. I hope so.”
