Jonathan Bailey Explains Why He’ll Never Exit ‘Bridgerton’ Permanently & Reveals a (Possible) Season 4 Spoiler!

Jonathan Bailey is talking all about Bridgerton in his latest magazine interview.

And while he’s busy in promo mode for Jurassic World Rebirth, it hasn’t stopped the press from asking about the fan favorite Netflix series, for which he stars as Anthony Bridgerton.

Why He Almost Passed on Auditioning for Bridgerton:

First, Jonathan revealed that in 2018 when the audition for the series came up, he almost passed on it!

“I got sent it and I nearly didn’t audition,” he told THR, revealing the audition happened just as he was wrapping up his revival of the musical Company, which he’d been performing for six months. “At that time, I was really done. I just needed to go and experience the world.” He read for the Duke, which was played by Rege-Jean Page. But eventually, he met with producers and landed the role of Anthony.

On the All Encompassing Aspect of Filming Such an In Depth Series:

About filming the series, which happened just before the world shut down from the pandemic, he said, “When you go and film something like Bridgerton, and you say goodbye to your friends, your family, it’s all-encompassing. I read an interview with Walton Goggins where he was saying he was glad that even now White Lotus didn’t happen to him 10 years ago because he wouldn’t have known what to do with that. And I just feel that maybe Bridgerton was just a smidge quicker than I was prepared for. Going back to theater, working with people that I know, that has helped.”

Why He’d Never Leave the Show Permanently:

“I’ve never been someone who’s like, ‘Thanks, bye.’ It’s not in my nature. There’s a real sense of brotherly pride I feel in it,” he said.

He Is Recognizing That He May Not Be Around for Every Season, Though:

He then recognized that “there may be a future season when the scheduling doesn’t work or the storyline may not require Anthony,” but he would still support his cast mates!

He shared, “I look forward to, in another however many years, when we’ve done the eighth season to sit around and be like, ‘Look what we all did together.’ “

“I know how much I love long-running series. I know how important familiarity of character and story and consistency is in these long-running series,” he added.

A (Possible) Season 4 Spoiler!

If you don’t watch much Bridgerton, then this could be a spoiler!

He then shared that he was on set recently filming a wedding for season four.

He said, “I was filming a wedding on a Monday morning. People know that people get married in Bridgerton — that’s not a spoiler, right?”

Find out which Bridgerton star was NOT asked back for season four!
