Jonathan Joss‘ husband is speaking out after his tragic death.

The actor was shot and killed on Sunday (June 1) in San Antonio, Tex. during an argument with a neighbor.

The next day, his husband Tristan Kern de Gonzales provided alleged details surrounding the nature of his death, claiming it was motivated by homophobia.

Tristan began the post by explaining that he and Jonathan visited their former home to pick up some mail.

“That home was burned down after over two years of threats from people in the area who repeatedly told us they would set it on fire. We reported these threats to law enforcement multiple times and nothing was done. Throughout that time we were harassed regularly by individuals who made it clear they did not accept our relationship. Much of the harassment was openly homophobic,” a statement read on Jonathan‘s Facebook page.

Tristan then said that when he and Jonathan arrived to the site, they saw the skull of one of their dogs placed out for them to see, causing the two to cry out in distress. A man then allegedly approached them, started shouting homophobic slurs and threats, and fatally shot Jonathan.

Jonathan and I had no weapons. We were not threatening anyone. We were grieving. We were standing side by side. When the man fired Jonathan pushed me out of the way. He saved my life. He was murdered by someone who could not stand the sight of two men loving each other,” Tristan added.

Jonathan was the voice of John Redcorn in King of the Hill. He also played Chief Ken Hotate on Parks and Recreation, and had roles in Tulsa King, Ray Donovan, and films like True Grit and The Magnificent Seven.

The news of his death broke on Monday (June 2).
