Elon Musk is leaving the Trump administration.

The 53-year-old businessman, who is worth over $400 billion, was on the campaign trail with Donald Trump throughout the 2024 election season and then he joined the administration to run the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).

Musk confirmed his departure in a statement on the social media website X and his exit comes just one day after he publicly expressed disappointment for Trump‘s “One Big Beautiful Bill Act.”

Musk said on Wednesday (May 28), “As my scheduled time as a Special Government Employee comes to an end, I would like to thank President @realDonaldTrump for the opportunity to reduce wasteful spending. The @DOGE mission will only strengthen over time as it becomes a way of life throughout the government.”

In his criticism of the bill, Musk expressed disappointment that the bill would increase the deficit by $3.8 trillion by 20234.

“I was disappointed to see the massive spending bill, frankly, which increases the budget deficit, not just decreases it, and undermines the work that the DOGE team is doing,” Musk told CBS Sunday Morning.

“I think a bill can be big or it can be beautiful, but I don’t know if it can be both. My personal opinion,” he added.

Elon recently made headlines over drama happening in his personal life.
