Nicole Scherzinger is sharing how Liam Payne‘s death has affected her and what they were texting about on the day he died.

“I just adored Liam. He had such a good heart. I barely knew him when I put One Direction together. I just saw these talented boys and was like, ‘I’m coming out of a girl group — I know the power of a group,’” the 47-year-old former Pussycat Dolls member tells The London Times in a newly released profile.
On the day Liam passed away in Argentina, they had been exchanging texts, “just chit-chat and pretty light,” she says.
The “No One Loves Me” singer was performing on Broadway in the revival of Sunset Boulevard and had a performance scheduled on the night of the tragedy. She learned of his death only hours beforehand.
“The show must go on,” Nicole says, “From then on, I dedicated a little part of the show to Liam every night. Just a little moment that always made me think of him.”
She concluded with a plea for “more compassion in the world.”
“Our phones are our enemies as much as they help us. I wish we’d cancel cancel culture.”
