Of the new songs featured on the record, “Music By Men” is one that’s gained the most attention, with fans eagerly looking up the lyrics.
It was written by Florence and Mark Bowen, and co-produced by Aaron Dessner.
“Breaking my bones / Getting four out of five / Listening to a song by The 1975 / I thought, ‘F–k it, I might as well give music by men a try,’” she sings.
She later revealed in a Rolling Stone interview she was listening to the band’s “Love It If We Made It.”
“I was like, ‘This song is really good.’ A big thing with songwriting is it’s often because it rhymes. So you needed a band that rhymed with ‘five,’” she said.
“When I broke my foot onstage, I got four out of five stars for that show. I was like, ‘What more do I have to do?’ I literally bled all over the stage. People were mopping it up and I finished the f–king show, and I think across the board it was like, ‘Four out of five.’ F–k’s sake. What now?” she added.
