Mark Sanchez‘s family is speaking out after he was hospitalized with stab wounds and then arrested and charged with a felony crime.

The 38-year-old former New York Jets quarterback was allegedly the aggressor in a violent incident that happened over the weekend in Indianapolis, leading to his arrest while in the hospital.

Mark allegedly assaulted a 69-year-old delivery driver while in an alley by a bar. The fight reportedly broke out over a parking spot. The former football player is now facing a Level 5 battery charge.

The punishment for that type of charge is one to six years in jail. Originally, he was facing three misdemeanor charges of battery resulting in injury, public intoxication and unlawful entry of a motor vehicle.

Mark‘s family released a statement to TMZ.

“This has been a deeply distressing time for everyone involved. Mark and our family are incredibly grateful for the concern, love, and support we’ve received over the past few days,” Mark‘s brother, Nick, said in the statement.

He added, “Mark remains under medical care for the serious injuries he sustained and is focused on his recovery as the legal process continues. We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the first responders and medical staff.”

Now more details are coming out about the altercation, which Mark reportedly said he doesn’t even remember taking place.
