Johnny Depp to Make Major Hollywood Return as Scrooge in ‘A Christmas Carol’ Remake

Johnny Depp has booked his next major movie role!

On Thursday (October 23), it was reported that the 62-year-old actor will be starring as Ebenezer Scrooge in an upcoming new, darker take on Charles DickensA Christmas Carol directed by horror filmmaker Ti West and produced by Paramount Pictures.

Keep reading to find out more…The studio is describing the movie, titled Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol, as “a thrilling ghost story set in Dickens’ London, following one man’s supernatural journey to face his past, present and future and fight for a second chance,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Andrea Riseborough is also attached to star in the project that has a script by Nathaniel Halpern.

If you didn’t know, Ti West is the filmmaker behind the X, Pearl, and MaXXXine movies.

Johnny was once one of the biggest and most bankable stars in Hollywood, but following his defamation lawsuits with ex-wife Amber Heard, the actor found himself on the outs with most major studios. He was fired from Warner Bros.’s Fantastic Beasts franchise in 2020. In recent years, however, he has still appeared in movies from smaller studios.

Johnny‘s casting as Scrooge comes after it was announced that he was teaming up with this iconic filmmaker for a new graphic novel series.

Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol is scheduled to hit theaters on November 13, 2026.
