Taylor Swift is telling a story through the lens of late icon Elizabeth Taylor in her new song “Elizabeth Taylor.”

The 35-year-old singer is seemingly comparing her own life to that of the late actress, whose relationships were covered heavily by the media. She was married eight times to seven different men.

Elizabeth was a two-time Academy Award-winning actress and she passed away in 2011 at the age of 79 after battling congestive heart failure.

Taylor sings on the track, “Elizabeth Taylor / Tell me for real / Do you think it’s forever? / Been number one but I never had two / And I can’t have fun if I can’t have… / Be my NY when Hollywood hates me / You’re only as hot as your last hit, baby / Been number one but I never had two / And I can’t have fun if I can’t have… you.”

The song seems to also be a reflection on fame and Taylor‘s life as a showgirl.

Elizabeth‘s former assistant recently said that he believes the icon would’ve “adored Taylor.”

“I think she would’ve loved Taylor Swift,” he said. “I think they could have been friends.”

“We couldn’t be more thrilled,” he said about the new song. “It’s a huge tribute to Elizabeth, and we couldn’t have asked for anything better to happen as a way of bringing attention to Elizabeth’s legacy to a younger generation.”
