“I’m honored to be the first person, and this is real, to tell you that KPop Demon Hunters, you’ve gone platinum,” Jimmy said while unveiled the plaque as the trio gasped in shock and became emotional.
If you don’t know, a platinum record is awarded when after a song has been out for 30 days and applicants submit specific sales and streaming figures, along with other criteria, reach one million units sold or streamed.
For digital singles, each permanent digital download will count as one unit, while 150 on-demand audio and/or video streams count as one unit. Jimmy said the song has been streamed over 360 million times.
“Golden” was released on July 4th, so the tracking would be made a month after that, and since then, the song has gone on to break several records and continues to top the charts!
Also on The Tonight Show, the girls shared some of the best reactions they’ve gotten after the music was released, and EJAE shared how she came up with the lyrical melody while on her way to the dentist. If you didn’t know, she co-wrote “Golden” and other songs on the soundtrack.
In addition, they performed the hit song in full live for the first time! (They performed snippets of it this past weekend in a surprise appearance on SNL.)
