More information has been released about New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo‘s injury, and why he had to have immediate surgery on Sunday (October 26) in Pennsylvania.
If you didn’t see, the 23-year-old rookie has having a huge year with the G-Men before an injury to his ankle caused him to be carted off the field during the Giants’ game against the Eagles in Philadelphia, Penn.
Usually, NFL stars would not have surgery on the spot and would opt to travel back home with the team. However, fans grew concerned when Cam was said to have had surgery quickly after his injury occurred.
Now, the Giants reporter for ESPN, Jordan Raanan, is providing a bit more context.

Jordan wrote on X, “It was an emergency situation with an open dislocation. That warranted him remaining in Philadelphia for the surgery.”
He added, “He’s doing well, given the circumstances.”
It seems to suggest that Cam suffered an open dislocation of his ankle, meaning the joint was forced out of place and the skin broke open. Because of the severity and infection risk, he seemingly had to stay in Philadelphia for immediate surgery instead of returning with the team.
Many are pointing to an injury experiences by retired quarterback Alex Smith in 2018, when he suffered an open leg fracture that broke through the skin. His situation was life-threatening due to infection complications, showing how dangerous open orthopedic injuries like that can be.
