Zosia Mamet is reflecting on a bad experience from early in her career.

The Girls actress is sharing a negative experience she had on a TV show set that lead to her abruptly leaving the show, despite being written into a number of additional episodes. Although she didn’t name the show, fans are speculating that it may have been Mad Men where she had a small role during seasons 4 and 5.

Zosia wrote about her experience in a series of personal essays, an excerpt of which was shared with The Hollywood Reporter. In the excerpt, she recalled being on set with the “intense human” showrunner.

“We were doing a blocking rehearsal when he showed up on set. The scene was short and easy. I was meant to come into the office, tell everyone I had photos of something important, remove them from the manila envelope I was carrying, and place them on the table,” Zosia writes in the essay.

“I walk in, I go to take the photos out of the envelope, and the showrunner calls “Cut.” Not the director of the episode, the showrunner. And we all look at each other like, Did somebody do something wrong? We all thought the scene was going fine,” she continued.

Zosia says the showrunner scolded her for the way she took the photos out of the envelope and made her re-do the scene “again and again and again” for “about half an hour” as he yelled at her for her performance.

“He starts off just raising his voice, which escalates to yelling, which eventually mutates into full-out screaming. Eventually he gave up or got bored,” Zosia recalls in the essay.

After the experience, Zosia says she immediately informed her agents to drop the role.

“I was supposed to do four more episodes that season, not including the one I was on, but I told them I didn’t care what they had to do, I didn’t care if the network sued me, I refused to go back on that set for one more day than I actually had to,” she writes in the essay.

Zosia‘s Girls co-star recently responded to some of the criticism about the show.
