Zoey Deutch is promoting her new movie The Threesome, which is being labeled as a romantic comedy, even if she doesn’t consider it to be one.

The 30-year-old actress hit the red carpet at the film’s premiere on Wednesday (September 3) at Metrograph in New York City.

Zoey was joined at the event by co-stars Ruby Cruz and Jaboukie Young-White, as well as director Chad Hartigan.

The movie is about an impulsive night that leads to a wild threesome between Olivia (Deutch), Connor (Jonah Hauer-King), and Jenny (Cruz), leaving both women facing unexpected consequences, thrusting all three into the raw and beautifully messy chaos of adulthood. Watch the trailer now! The movie hits theaters on September 5.

Zoey just opened up in a new interview about why she has avoided being in rom-coms after getting acclaim for her performances in 2018′s Set It Up and 2022′s Something from Tiffany’s.

“It’s interesting, I think people think I’ve been in a lot more rom-coms than I have. I mean, technically the only rom-coms I’ve been in are Set It Up and Something from Tiffany’s,” she told TheWrap. “It’s like I’ve done 40 of them, but I’ve only done two!”

“It’s a conscious choice to not do them, because I don’t want to get pigeonholed. And I feel like people think I’ve done a lot more of them than I have, and when I hear that, I go, ‘Oh no, I shouldn’t do them ever again,’” she added.

“With the rom-com thing, I get afraid that I’m being put in a box. But the truth is, I love romantic comedies,” she said. “I think there’s nothing more fun than watching and hearing about, in life, two people fall in love, and so I love the genre. If I wouldn’t be put in a box and in the category, I would make a million of them.”

Zoey also has another exciting movie hitting theaters in October.
