After his record-breaking residency exclusively in Puerto Rico over the summer, the 31-year-old DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS performer recently spoke out in an interview to explain why he purposely didn’t tour stateside this time around, and it has to do with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) amid the ongoing deportation of undocumented individuals, which has increased in Donald Trump‘s presidency.

“People from the US could come here to see the show. Latinos and Puerto Ricans of the United States could also travel here, or to any part of the world,” he told i-D magazine.

“But there was the issue that … ICE could be outside (my concert venue). And it’s something that we were talking about and very concerned about.”

Previously, he was asked about skipping the United States for his tour, and he gave a two word answer: “It’s unnecessary.”

Earlier in the summer, he called out “sons of b–hes” federal agents in Puerto Rico for not “leaving these people working here alone.”

When the performance announcement was made on Sunday night (September 28), Bad Bunny wrote on social media: “I’ve been thinking about it these days, and after discussing it with my team, I think I’ll do just one date in the United States.”

Evidently, he’s decided to make an exception for this one performance.

No doubt, the oft-outspoken superstar will use the platform to make his stance clear while stateside.

Even his latest studio album is deeply political, expressing his concerns about preserving Puerto Rico’s culture and infrastructure. Find out what he said about it on his song, “LeLO QUE LE PASÓ A HAWAii,” or “What Happened to Hawaii.”
