The 32-year-old singer and actress was joined by someone else on the red carpet, but her real date to the show was sitting next to her inside the UBS Arena at the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday (September 7) in Elmont, New York.

Ariana brought her dad Edward Butera to the show!
Right at the top of the ceremony, Ariana was shown on TV sitting with him in the audience. On her other side was Lady Gaga, who had to leave the venue after winning the first award of the night.
While Ariana‘s parents split when she was eight years old, Ed and his ex Joan Grande are now “best friends” after she intervened.
“I remember just kind of being at this pivotal point where I was just like, ‘You guys, I love you both so much. It’s been such a long time. Figure it the f— out.’ Like hello, it’s been 18 years. Please get over it. And they did. It makes me really happy,” Ariana said on the WTF with Marc Maron podcast.
