Sombr Wins His First Moon Person for ‘Back to Friends’ at VMAs 2025!

Sombr just won his first-ever award at the VMAs!

As he walked the red carpet at the event on Sunday (September 7) at UBS Arena in Elmont, New York, it was announced that the 20-year-old singer, whose real name is Shane Michael Boose, won the award for Best Alternative for his song “Back to Friends.”

He was nominated alongside Gigi Perez for “Sailor Song,” Imagine Dragons for “Wake Up,” Lola Young for “Messy,” MGK and Jelly Roll for “Lonely Road,” and The Marías for “Back to Me.”

Sombr is nominated for two other awards tonight – Song of the Summer for “12 to 12″ and Best New Artist. He’ll also be performing during the show!

The 2025 VMAs show is airing live on CBS for the first time with LL Cool J returning to host after co-hosting in 2022. Lady Gaga leads the list of nominations this year with 12 nods and she’s part of the star-studded lineup of performers who will appear during the show. Make sure to tune in at 8pm ET/5pm PT for the live show.
