The Saw franchise was preparing for another bloody installment with Saw XI (Saw 11), but the film was abruptly canceled, despite a post-credits tease at the end of Saw X.
Producer Oren Koules recently explained in an interview that he and fellow producer Mark Burg just couldn’t agree on the direction for the sequel.
“My partner and I couldn’t see eye to eye on Saw XI,” he told Fangoria.

“It was the right time. We also sold the library, the ten previous movies, all of the ancillaries, the roller coaster, the escape rooms, all of it.”
According to the producer, the scrapped sequel was supposed to start just 30 seconds after Saw X ended, following villain Cecilia Peterson (Synnøve Macody Lund) and Mark Hoffman (Costas Mandylor).
The script was written by longtime series scribes Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton, with longtime series director Kevin Greutert expected to helm this sequel.
“It was a great script. It took place about 30 seconds after Saw X. Everybody was in. Everybody was in. Mark [Burg] and I just couldn’t agree on the execution,” he admitted to Fangoria.
The cancellation also came ahead of a major shift: Blumhouse, the studio behind The Purge and the Halloween reboots, purchased the rights to the Saw franchise from Twisted Pictures.
Director James Wan, who co-directed the original 2004 film, confirmed on Instagram that he’s returning creatively for the first time in years.
While no release date has been announced, James Wan and Blumhouse are developing a new project that will relaunch the franchise.
“Coming back to this world with a fresh perspective is both thrilling and deeply personal,” he wrote, adding: “I’m very much looking forward to embracing the original spirit whilst pushing the legacy forward in bold, unexpected ways.”
