It has been more than 20 years since Ellen and Rosie had a falling out, which Rosie claims happened after Ellen publicly told the world that they were not friends.
Ellen appeared on Larry King Live in 2004 and was asked about Rosie‘s show being canceled. She replied, “I don’t know… I don’t really know Rosie that well. I mean, I’ve spoken to her, but we’re not really friends.”
While she has received an apology from Ellen in recent years, Rosie still admits there was a lot of pain involved.
“That was like one of the most painful things that ever happened to me in show business in my life,” Rosie said on the No Filter podcast. “I couldn’t believe it… I have photos of her holding my newborn babies. I knew her for 30 years.”
“She was, all of a sudden, in the position I was in… and instead of deciding to stand next to me and hold my hand, which is what I did to her, she did the opposite,” Rosie said.
Rosie said in the new interview that Ellen has reached out and asked why she keeps talking about their falling out, but doesn’t attempt to reach a point of apology.
“I would have apologized. I would have said, ‘I’m really sorry I hurt you that much and I don’t why I did that and it was a mistake and I hope you can forgive me.’ That’s what I would have done. But I think in her mind, she thinks I keep rehashing it for pleasure. I don’t rehash it for pleasure. I rehash it because our careers have taken sort of parallel, interwoven paths,” Rosie said.
Ellen did recently show some public support for Rosie.
