Kate Mara is recounting her friends to lovers story with now husband Jamie Bell!
The 42-year-old actress opened up about falling in love with her Fantastic Four co-star, and revealed who made the first move while appearing on SiriusXM’s Where Everybody Knows Your Name podcast with Ted Danson.

“We were friends, but not, we didn’t really know each other. And then we made the Fantastic Four movie together, which was a really interesting experience. How rough, not a great experience,” she said. “It was a mess. Yeah, just a messy experience, but we got to know each other on it and I thought, oh, he’s so great. I just thought he was the best and he was single.”
She then went on to share how she tried setting him up with other people!
“I thought how, God, I’ve set him up with someone. He’s the biggest catch. How does he not, how is he not with someone amazing,” Kate shared. “I just didn’t know that I was the person I was looking for. It took me a year to figure that out.”
“I think we were, ’cause we were friends for so long that we were both just in our minds, like this is the relationship. And then, yeah, we fell in love on the press tour of that movie. ‘Cause it was trauma bonding,” she recalled.
So, who made the first move? “Jamie Did. He blinked. And that was it. Insane. We’re like, oh, I guess we’re getting married.”
Kate added it was “like instantly. ’cause we knew each other forever. Yeah. We just thought, oh this is gonna be forever. Wonderful. And here we are, a bunch of kids later and yeah, it’s the best.”
Kate and Jamie got married in 2017, two years after Fantastic Four was released in theaters. They have two children together – a six-year-old daughter and an almost three-year-old son. Jamie also has son Jack, 12, from his previous relationship with Evan Rachel Wood.
