James Van Der Beek‘s wife Kimberly is speaking out.
The 43-year-old wife of the Dawson’s Creek alum, who is currently battling colorectal cancer and had to pull out of the show’s reunion event in partnership with F Cancer on Monday (September 22) due to illness, shared a video message to her Instagram Story.

“I just got off with James digesting the whole night tonight, and Michelle Williams was the brainchild of this night,” she said, adding that it was “such a gift.”
Kimberly thanked Michelle‘s husband Thomas Kail for making “so many of the kids’ dreams come true on this trip” as well, calling the couple “exquisite” and “angel humans.”
“The entire cast has been beyond words. Words will never do justice for their support,” she went on to say, praising the director Jason Moore, as well as Kevin Williamson.
She also shared some fun facts about the cast, including that Mary-Margaret Humes, who plays his on-screen mom Gail Leery, sends James cookies every year for his birthday and sends “sweet messages all the time,” and that co-star Michelle has “flowers in every room, she’s changed our pillowcases and sheets in our hotel just to be more cozy,” calling her “unparalleled” and “all heart.”
“Everybody is amazing,” she said. “This night was so special to the whole family, and more importantly, like just feeling my husband fill the entire theater, and the love for him,” she said.
“We’ll be unwinding this one for a while, but thank you for the love and support and for the prayers, cause right here, front and center, is my husband on my heart.”
“And it was a beautiful night, and I miss my husband. I can’t wait to go see him tomorrow,” she continued. Find out why James had to pull out suddenly, and see who was his replacement.
That said, he still made a surprise video appearance with a message.
James‘ wife Kimberly and all of their kids, Olivia, 14, Joshua, 13, Annabel, 11, Emilia, 9, Gwendolyn, 7, and Jeremiah, 3, joined the cast to sing as well at the event.
