The show is on track to premiere in the midseason and comes from Rob Doherty.

It is inspired by the 1987 novel Double Whammy by Carl Hiaasen, per Deadline.

Here’s the plot: “RJ Decker (Speedman) is a disgraced newspaper photographer and ex-con who starts over as a private investigator in the colorful-if-crime-filled world of South Florida. The series follows him tackle cases that range from slightly odd to outright bizarre with the help of his journalist ex, her police detective wife, and a shadowy new benefactor, a woman from his past who could be his greatest ally… or his one-way ticket back to prison.”

According to Deadline, the pilot was “well received with Speedman’s performance getting high marks.”

However, at least one casting change is already being made.

The series regular role of Shay Bennett was played by Weruche Opia in the pilot, but will be recast for the series, per the report.

Kevin Rankin will play Aloysius “Wish” Aiken, Adelaide Clemens stars as Catherine Delacroix, and Bevin Bru stars as Melody “Mel” Romero. Stay tuned for more casting updates.
