During his appearance on Andy Cohen Live, Andy asked how his son was and KJ shared that being a dad forced him to chill and to get sober.
“A lot of things that I realized I had to button up, I buttoned up. And I realized that there’s no other way for me to do it,” the actor shared, adding that he got caught up in the fame after Riverdale.
He then shared that after his son was born, he found his way back.
“Honestly, my relationship with my higher power. Sasha being a gift that saved my life. I truly believe Sasha, having Sasha saved my life,” KJ said. “You know, people say you can’t, you shouldn’t care about, I mean, I care about, you know, you have a kid and then suddenly you understand the idea of murder. You know, that like, you can empathize with why someone would kill someone, because you love someone so much.”
“And that’s that same feeling that I go, ‘I love you so much more than me,’” he added. “And in order to, I have to sacrifice all these things for you and that’s what a good parent does.”
Earlier this week, KJ suited up for the premiere of The Map That Leads to You in Charleston, South Carolina, alongside co-stars Madelyn Cline, Sofia Wylie and Madison Thompson. The movie debuts on Prime Video NEXT Wednesday (August 20).
If you didn’t know, KJ is also set to portray the late Bradley Nowell in an upcoming Sublime biopic.
