On Sunday (July 20), the actor – who portrayed Theo, the son of Bill Cosby’s character, Cliff Huxtable, on The Cosby Show – drowned at the age of 54 while swimming on vacation in Costa Rica with his family.
While Malcolm has kept the identities of his wife and daughter private, there has been some info about them shared online.

The news was shared by Phynjuar Thomas, who is the mother of Malcolm‘s ex-girlfriend Michelle Thomas, who died in 1998 from cancer.
“I am elated over Malcolm’s new child,” Phynjuar told The New York Daily News (via Essence) at the time. “I love him. I hope they name the baby after me. Phynjuar is a beautiful name.”
At the time, sources said that Malcolm‘s wife is Connecticut-based attorney.
Malcolm later confirmed the baby news by sharing a photo on Instagram of him cradling his wife’s baby bump while writing, “Yep…” in the caption.
Then in July 2017, Malcolm shared his first, and only, photo with his daughter.
“Peaceful time with family takes on a whole new meaning now…😍😍😍” Malcolm wrote along with a photo of the baby sleeping on his chest.
Malcolm and Michelle, who played Theo’s girlfriend Justine Phillips on The Cosby Show, dated until 1994. He was by her side when she passed away from cancer in 1998. He then went on to date fellow Cosby co-star Karen Malina White for more than seven years. He also dated Regina King from 2011 to 2013.
