Stephen Colbert will soon be saying goodbye to CBS.

The network has announced that The Late Show with Stephen Colbert will come to an end next year, with the final episode airing in 2026.

The Late Show With Stephen Colbert will end its historic run in May 2026 at the end of the broadcast season. We consider Stephen Colbert irreplaceable and will retire The Late Show franchise at that time. We are proud that Stephen called CBS home. He and the broadcast will be remembered in the pantheon of greats that graced late night television,” a group of CBS execs said to Deadline in a statement.

Not only is Colbert‘s show ending, but CBS is retiring The Late Show completely. The franchise began in 1993 with David Letterman as the host and Colbert took over for him in 2015.

“I’m not being replaced, this is all just going away,” Colbert said in a message to fans at the Thursday (July 17) taping of his show.

CBS explained that the decision was “purely a financial decision against a challenging backdrop in late night.”

“It is not related in any way to the show’s performance, content or other matters happening at Paramount,” the statement added.

The Late Show with Stephen Colbert just got an Emmy nomination, but some of his competitors were actually snubbed this year.
