
Jimmy Fallon fully addressed CBS’ decision to end The Late Show with Stephen Colbert during his opening monologue on The Tonight Show on Monday (July 21).
Previously, Jimmy had released a statement reacting to the shocking news. Now, he addressed it in front of his studio audience, and NBC viewers.

“I am your host. Well, at least for tonight,” Jimmy opened. “Everybody is talking about CBS’ decision to end The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.”
He added some viewers are “now threatening to boycott the network.”
“CBS could lose millions of viewers, plus tens of hundreds watching on Paramount+,” he quipped.
“These are crazy times. This morning my dad called me and said he’s officially a Kimmel guy,” he added, joking about ABC’s late night host.
“Stephen has done years of incredibly smart and hilarious television, and he’s won 10 Emmys,” Jimmy continued. “Trump heard and was like, ‘Big deal, last week I just won a FIFA World Cup trophy.’” If you don’t know, Trump just recently attended the FIFA Club World Cup final.
The Late Show will air its final episode in May of 2026.
