Dolores Catania is opening up about her weight loss journey.
Over the past few years, the 54-year-old Real Housewives of New Jersey star has been very transparent about taking GLP-1 drugs to help lose weight.
In an exclusive new interview with JustJared.com, Dolores addressed the stigmas around weight loss drugs and revealed how she deals with side effects from the medications.
Keep reading to find out more…“I feel like they’re afraid of the backlash,” Dolores said about why more celebrities don’t publicly share that they’re on weight loss drugs. “Because in taking GLP-1, you have your side effects, but it doesn’t mean you don’t have to still live a healthy lifestyle.”
“You still have to work out,” she continued. “I have a trainer. I work out three to four times a week. I hate it. I’d rather drink poison, because I hate working out. People don’t believe that. I have to be pushed to go.”
Dolores added, “So when people say, ‘Oh yeah, why don’t you just go to the gym?’ I work hard, and do try to watch what I eat. The thing with GLP-1s is, if you overeat in the beginning, you get very, very nauseous. Like extremely nauseous. You vomit. So you have to have something to help you with that. And that’s why, I mean, that’s like probably why you’re not hearing about it because people aren’t admitting it, but this is just, it’s a fact of the GLP-1 life.”
Also in our interview, Dolores talked about her new partnership with My Advanced Herbals®, from the makers of Dramamine®, to help deal with GLP-1 side effects, including nausea and constipation. Dolores said that the ginger chews have been in a gamechanger in dealing with the side effects.
“GLP-1 comes with some side effects [like] nausea, and that hit me in a really different way,” Dolores admitted. “Like I don’t know that I would have stayed on it and finished the journey that I did to get to the weight I wanted if I did not have the the ginger chew.”
She went on to say that when she first started her GLP-1 journey, doctors didn’t give her any suggestions about how to handle the side effects.
“That’s why I want everyone to know about this because the doctors suggested a medication for nausea, but it also constipates you,” she explained. “Also with GLP-1s, there’s a lot of protein, and carbs, which make you sick. Sugars make you sick. And make you nauseous. I don’t want to say sick, but say nauseous.”
So, one day Dolores did some shopping at CVS where she found Advanced Herbals® Ginger Chews: “I knew it wasn’t like a medication. I read about it. It was like all good. Makers of Dramamine. That’s your go-to when you’re nauseous, right? So, I tried it and it really, it got me over the hump of nausea and it got me past the point of wanting to quit.”
Dolores has now been on a GLP-1 for over two years and besides the drug helping her lose weight, she’s also seen in a big improvement in her overall health.
“So I’m on a much lower dosage now. It’s maintenance,” Dolores explained. “I like the way I feel. My blood work is really good. Paul [Connell], my boyfriend, has gotten off blood pressure medication that he was on before because he’s dropped so much weight.”
She continued, “And it’s really just, I’d say maintenance levels for me now, but I still find bouts of nausea when I eat the wrong things on it because it’s your body telling you you ate something that you shouldn’t have. So I also have my ginger chews with me all the time.”
Along with her new partnership with Advanced Herbals®, Dolores also launched her new webseries “The Dish on GLP-1s” where she and Dr. Holly Lofton, a Board Certified Obesity Medicine Physician at NYU Langone, will answer questions patients have about taking GLP-1s.
