Alex Marquardt, who worked as the Chief National Security Correspondent for CNN since 2017, is departing the news network.

He posted the news on his X account, writing, “Some personal news: I’m leaving CNN after 8 terrific years. Tough to say goodbye but it’s been an honor to work among the very best in the business. Profound thank you to my comrades on the National Security team & the phenomenal teammates I’ve worked with in the US and abroad.”

He was recently involved in a lawsuit filed against CNN.

U.S. Navy veteran Zachary Young sued the network. According to THR, he was “awarded $5 million in a libel lawsuit against CNN over a 2021 report falsely portraying him as a profiteer running a ‘black market’ scheme to evacuate Afghans in the aftermath of the U.S. military withdrawal from the country.” Alex was apparently a “focus” in this lawsuit.

THR noted that this is what he found to be defamatory: “Reporter Alex Marquardt detailed how, following President Joe Biden’s withdrawal from Afghanistan and the collapse of the government, panicked locals turned to private contractors to help them flee the country. One such contractor was Zachary Young, a Navy Veteran whose firm was charging people hefty fees—sometimes tens of thousands of dollars—to escape the Taliban.”

Several other news anchors have also exited their positions this year.
