“She’d be a goddess or some relation who would look very much like Meryl Streep,” she said.
Sabrina has not been officially cast in Mamma Mia! 3. She has covered songs from ABBA, the Swedish pop group behind the music for Mamma Mia!, and she’s also friendly with Amanda Seyfried, the star of the two Mamma Mia! movies.
“If Sabrina Carpenter wants to play my daughter, I’ll make it happen. I’m a big fan,” Amanda previously said while discussing the movies and the characters’ loose age discrepancies.
Mamma Mia! 3 is currently in development. The producer admitted that the third movie has a script, but hasn’t teased any details yet.
“Well, we know what we want to do with the movie, and it will happen,” she said. “And I mean, we brought together this amazing group of movie stars that were all connected through it, and huge friendships evolved.”
Mamma Mia! will return to Broadway starting August 2.
The musical spawned two theatrical film adaptations: 2008’s Mamma Mia! and the sequel, 2018’s Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again. Stay tuned for casting updates!
