Dick Van Dyke Shares the ‘Curse of Living to Almost 100’

Dick Van Dyke is sharing the downfall of living so long.

During a recent Q&A with wife Arlene, the 99-year-old Hollywood icon, who will be turning 100 in December, revealed that he and longtime friend Ed Asner were set to team up for a remake of The Odd Couple, but that fell apart when Ed died in 2021 at the age of 91.

Keep reading to find out more…“That would’ve been such fun, and we lost it. I’ve lost a lot of friends,” Dick admitted, via People.

“He’s outlived everybody,” Arlene, 53, chimed in about Dick. “That’s the curse of living to almost 100.”

Arlene then noted that the Mary Poppins star is “still so positive” despite having lost so many beloved friends and co-stars over the year.

She then asked him the secret to his cheerful mindset.

“Well, life’s been good to me,” Dick simply responded. “I can’t complain.”

Last year, Dick and Arlene opened up about the nature of their relationship given their 46-year age gap.
